Are you in Boiling Water?
Are you like the Boiling Frog? Many times we do not realize we are caught up in an Addiction or a Controlling relationship…until it is too late.
Over time control and abuse builds without us realizing the extent of the danger that surrounds us.
Like a frog in cool water that gradually begins to boil
If you drop a frog in a pot of boiling water, it will instinctually try to climb out. However, if you gently place it in a pot of lukewarm water and turn the heat on low, it will float there calmly. As the water gradually heats up, the frog is unaware of its deadly changing environment and before long it boils to death.
This metaphor is a great illustration of how an individual can be unaware of the dangers that surrounds them. Unaware of the repercussions of a Substance, Habit or Controlling Relationships they may feel stuck in.
The longer the abuse continues, the more the abuse becomes accepted and rationalized. This prolongs the unhealthy dysfunctional relationship with person, place or thing as the abuse intensifies.
During the stages of abuse, the person within the abuse cycle reacts the best way they know how as resignation and hopelessness becomes their reality.
